The high temperature in Berlin today was -5° C, with a strong breeze and very damp air, and as my wife Andrea and I traveled around the town, I remembered a New Year's Eve that we spent in Berlin in the late 1990s. We were staying with a friend on the west side of the city, but we went to a party close to where the Berlin Wall had once run. When we left the party at around 4 am, the temperature was -20° C, but for some reason, we ended up walking back to where we were staying. By the time we arrived there, our eyebrows had ice on them.
