Yesterday, my daughter Luisa and I spent the afternoon and evening at St. Jakob Halle in Basel watching first-round matches at the ATP Swiss Indoors tennis tournament. First, we watched one-and-a-half matches at the much smaller Court 1, where we sat in the third row and got an intense, closeup experience. The three-set match between Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Daniel Altmaier was at a high level throughout, with no break points until the third set, when Altmaier got the one break that decided the match. On Center Court, we saw our reason to go yesterday: the official farewell to three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, who is retiring after this tournament.
