Although Deadheads were devoted to The Grateful Dead, they were often very critical of the band. They gave dismissive nicknames to songs that they did not like to hear live: "Mighty Swell" for "Might As Well"; "Dough Knees" for "Don't Ease Me In"; "Useless Blues" for "U. S. Blues". And they complained enough about "Keep Your Day Job" that the band eventually stopped playing it. And once, after a show, my friend Rick and I were waiting for the friends we would drive home with, and he said, "Deadheads are so funny. They go to all those concerts and all they ever do is complain about the songs they didn't like." (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 19 September 2026)
