Today, I wanted a new image for my Anki flashcard for the Spanish word "resoluto". Thinking that I had once heard of a ship called the Resolute, I determined that it was a British ship that was trapped in Arctic ice in 1854. After the ship was recovered by a U. S. whaling ship, it was fitted up by the U. S. government and returned to Great Britain. There, its timbers were turned into a desk presented to U. S. President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880. That is the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office in the White House. So now my image for "resoluto" is a picture of that desk. (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 5 October 2025)
