When I turned on the livestream of today's women's football match between FC Basel and Grasshoppers, there was a break in the action for a Basel player to be treated. While the camera panned across the pitch, I saw a Grasshoppers player wearing what I first thought was a turban made of a bandage, as sometimes happens when someone gets hurt going for a header. But this turban was a headscarf, and the player, Imane Touriss, a French-Moroccan dual citizen who plays for Morocco, was also wearing long sleeves and long pants. I was glad to see that the Swiss Women's Super League allows players to wear such uniforms during matches. (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 21 September 2025)
