Recently, my daughter Sara and I have been watching one of her favorite TV series, "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (2005-2008), created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Today, we finished the first season of the three, which ends with a two-part episode, "The Siege of the North." At one point, Aang, the titular Avatar, has to enter the spirit world to find out how to overcome the siege. There, he meets a spirit named Koh, the Face Stealer, who, he's told, will "steal your face" if you show emotion. Of course I thought of the line from "He's Gone", by The Grateful Dead: "Steal your face right off your head." (Andrew Shields, #111words, 14 February 2026)
