The other day, the lead topic in The Guardian's football trivia column The Knowledge was football players who won lots of league titles but never played for their country, with the highest count being Chris Marriott with twelve Welsh titles but no caps. Because FC Basel, my favorite team, won eight Swiss Super Leauge titles in a row from 2010 to 2017, I had a hunch that there might be a Basel player FC Basel with lots of titles but no caps. And I then found one who won thirteen—eight league titles and five cups, for Basel, Beşiktaş (Turkey), and Al-Jazira (UAE)—but never played for Argentina: Matías Emilio Delgado.
