Just over a year ago, I translated my first graphic novel from German into English: Thomas Aeschbacher's "In the End We All Die" ("Der Letzte löscht das Licht", Helvetiq 2025). I was pleased today to learn that the New York Public Library put the book on its 2025 list of 50 Best New Comics for Adults. Earlier this year, I translated a second graphic novel for Helvetiq: Josephine Mark's "My Trip with Drip" ("Trip mit Tropf", originally published in 2023 by Kibitz). And now I'm working on a third for New York Review Books, a fascinating, fantastic graphic novel of life in East Germany, "Genossin Kuckuck," by Anke Feuchtenberger (Reprodukt, 2023). (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 11 October 2025)
