For one session in my course "The Grateful Dead: Lyrics, Music, Culture" this term, I'll focus on Jeffrey Harrison's poem "Elizabeth Bishop and The Grateful Dead", but we'll also look at Denise Levertov's "Happiness" (which mentions dancing to "Workingman's Dead", Joyce Peseroff's "Zeno's Paradox, or My Mother's Forsythia" (which mentions grieving with "Scarlet Begonias"), and my own "Grateful Dead Concert". I'll also refer to two songs: Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" and Loudon Wainwright III's "The Acid Song". If you know of any other poems and songs that refer to The Grateful Dead or any of their songs (even including poems and songs that hate the band), let me know.
