The rain this morning put Del Shannon's song "Runaway" (1961) in my head: "As I walk along, I wonder / What went wrong with our love". I once learned how to play the song, so I looked up the chords, and in the process, I "wondered what went wrong" for the singer. The song is completely vague about that, but the result is clear: "I wonder why she ran away, and I wonder where she will stay." Even that's completely open, so then I imagined the singer's ex-partner staying in a shelter for women escaping domestic violence, and I wondered if for her, she "ran away" because he had abused her.
