In early May 2024, my wife Andrea and I applied for Swiss citizenship. We had dawdled too long for our two older children, Miles and Luisa, to apply with us, but it was just in time for our youngest, Sara, to apply with us (right before the deadline of her 18th birthday). After a telephone interview last fall, a course on Switzerland in January, and an interview in late March, we finally got a letter last week—but it was just a revised document from the Basel-Stadt residency office listing Basel as our "Heimatort" (hometown). But yesterday, we got official confirmation, and now we are Swiss citizens. When's the next election? (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 12 November 2025)
