In the interview with MS NOW I referred to yesterday, New York Democratic Representative Hakeem Jeffries said what his focus would be: "We won decisively on affordability. We now have a responsibility to govern on affordability." But, as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani knows, the issue of affordability is directly connected to the corruption of the Trump administration and the Republican Party: The affordability crisis comes from the extreme wealth gap in the United States, which in turn comes from that corruption, including the power of unregulated corporations and oligarchs supporting politicians to get government contracts. To "govern on affordability" must include the accountability that Jefferies disdains as "getting even". (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 6 November 2026)
