I first saw the Sarah Chaksad Large Ensemble on four straight days at the Bird's Eye in Basel on 12-15 July 2023. As when I have seen other jazz bands on consecutive days, the reward was the band's rich and varied performances, even or perhaps especially of tunes they played every night. I saw them again on 4 May 2024 at the Tinguely Museum in Basel, and now I've seen them three more times from 15-17 January 2026. This time, Chaksad debuted several new tunes each show, one of which the band played each night, with each performance getting more and more exciting as they discovered where they could take it.
