When I was about 11, we found out my constant nasal congestion was caused by an allergy to cats (among other things). Until then, we had always had one or more cats. When I was about 7, our cat Zinka had kittens, which fascinated me and my sisters Sara and Ruth, who were about 9. When the kittens were about a week old, we took them to school for show-and-tell, and naturally all the kids in our classes loved them. But when we got back home, Zinka no longer recognized them as her own. We had to keep them in a drawer and feed them milk with eyedroppers, but they died. (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 14 July 2026)
