Last night at the Querfeldhalle in Basel, Zirkus Neuland had the premiere of their new production "Schwimmen" with five performers (Annika Bürklin, Aylin Widmer, Ika Schnyder, Timea Rickenbacher, and Yella Büchler) supported by directors Vinzent Gisi and Noa Brodbeck, along with Martina Stöckli and Leonti Usolzew. With a focus on circus numbers supplemented by theater, performance art, and singing, the show began with comedy and acrobatics. Then, with aerials, it took a darker turn with a German pun on "Schwimmen" to refer to insecurity and confusion. This singular, entertaining, and moving show will continue at the Querfeldhalle on 6 and 7 March at 8 pm and 8 March at 6 pm. (Andrew Shields, #111words, 1 March 2026)
