My post yesterday about the references to "M*A*S*H" in an episode of "Community" made me think about what I remember from watching "M*A*S*H" in the 1970s. When I tried to think of a scene, I remembered the announcement by Radar (Gary Burghoff) that Henry Blake (McLean Stevenson) had died in a plane crash on his way back to the United States. That episode, "Abysinnia, Henry", aired on Tuesday, 18 March 1975, when I was ten years old, and I might well have watched it (and certainly saw it later in reruns). That might make it my earliest aesthetic experience of catharsis, which I felt again when I watched the scene yesterday. (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 26 August 2026)
