One evening in Fall 1989, I left my house in West Philadelphia with my bank card to get $20 and buy dishwashing detergent. Approaching my house on my return, I heard footsteps behind me and found myself being mugged by two teenage boys, who took my $12 in change and my bank card. I went inside and called the police. A little later, a uniformed officer in a police car showed up to drive around the neighborhood with me. When we pulled up beside two adults with the two boys, one of the adults (who were plainclothes cops) asked me my name and then flashed my bank card, "We got 'em."
