When I have gone to St. Jakob Park in Basel to watch football matches with FC Basel (men's and women's teams) or the Swiss national team (only the men so far) or the matches at the 2025 Women's Euro, I usually arrive at least half an hour early to watch the teams warm up. I have done this often in the past twenty-five years, but at yesterday's FC Basel men's match, I noticed something I hadn't before: The head referee and the two line judges were also warming up. Their synchronized exercises were clearly designed to go through all their possible leg motions as they later move around during the match. (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 2 August 2026)
