At the Langnau Jazz Nights on Tuesday, 21 July, Bill Frisell spoke only to introduce the band before playing and then again at the end of the set: Greg Tardy (tenor saxophone and clarinet), Thomas Morgan (bass), and Rudy Royston (drums). But he never could have spoken between the songs: Either an improvised passage flowed from one song into the next, or Frisell started a new song as the last sounds of the previous one faded. For me, the highlights were two of his oldest compositions, "When We Go" and "Strange Meeting", which he first recorded for his second album, "Rambler", in 1985, and has returned to often over the years.
