When the agèd dog lies sprawled on a dung pile and hears a voice he last heard when he was young, he briefly wags his tail and dies. When the young man sees the dog's tail respond to the voice of the old beggar he just met, he recognizes his father. When an old servant washes the old beggar's feet, she sees the scar on his leg that reveals him as her master. When she jerks her hand and spills the water, he knows he has been recognized, but he holds up his hand for her to remain silent. The recognition scenes were my favorite moments in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey". (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 22 July 2026)
