At the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, I support Switzerland, my naturalized homeland. I've also been following Germany, England, and Spain, as well as teams from Africa. And as a birthright citizen of the country, I appreciate the performance of the United States Men's National Team. But FIFA President Gianni Infantino's cancellation—after the apparent intervention of United States President Donald Trump—of the suspension of U. S. striker (and birthright citizen) Folarin Balogun after his red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina makes me more disgusted than ever with FIFA's corruption. The honorable thing for USMNT trainer Mauricio Pochettino to do would be to not play Balogun against Belgium this evening. (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 6 July 2026)
