On our last day in Spain, my sister Sara and I spent three hours at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid (which is free on Monday afternoons). We mostly wandered around separately. As I entered the last room on the first floor, I spotted a captivating black-and-white image of two men who looked to be in their fifties. As I approached it, one of them looked familiar, so I wondered if I had seen them before. And then the label thrilled me as I read the names of the two poets in Ronald B. Kitaj's 1977 painting in oil and graphite on canvas, "A Visit to London (Robert Creeley and Robert Duncan)". Andrew Shields, #111Words, 18 August 2026)
