One summer in the early 2000s, when my wife and children took the train to visit my in-laws in Kassel, I still had classes, so I later separately drove our car from Basel to Kassel. Shortly after Freiburg-im-Breisgau, the Autobahn came to a standstill around a construction site. It later turned out there had been an accident up ahead of where I was. Our car didn't have air-conditioning, so like others in the traffic jam, I got out to stretch my legs. When the standstill continued, I got out my mandolin and played for minutes for end between the brief periods when we were all able to move forward a little.
