First, I was relieved: In Trump v. Barbara, the United States Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship as clearly formulated in the first clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." But a moment later, I was horrified by the 6-3 result: Three Justices voted to contradict that clear text. And in fact, it's really a 5-4 decision: Justice Brett Kavanagh would not have objected to a law passed by Congress (rather than am Executive Order) being used to contradict the Constitution.
