This morning, I was reminded of Minutemen's 1984 double album "Double Nickels on the Dime", which featured such great songs as "#1 Hit Song", "This Ain't No Picnic", and "Jesus and Tequila". I saw them on 14 May 1985 on a quadruple bill at the Keystone Palo Alto, headlined by James Blood Ulmer (1940-2026) and supported by Dot 3 and Whipping Boy. Minutemen had a 45-song setlist for their 45-minute set and would have almost played them all, but they stopped to hand out "U. S. out of Nicaragua" bumper stickers. Ulmer tore down the house with the title song of his 1980 album "Are You Glad To Be In America?" (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 10 June 2026)
