Along with Jim Stafford's "Spiders & Snakes" and Paper Lace's "The Night Chicago Died", which I wrote about yesterday, other songs I remember hearing on Top of the Pops when I was nine years old and my family lived in Leamington Spa include Paper Lace's "Billy Don't Be A Hero", Terry Jacks's "Seasons in the Sun", and ABBA's "Waterloo". On 6 April 1974, ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest. I almost certainly didn't watch the ESC broadcast, but I probably saw and heard the song when the band performed on Top of the Pops on 11 April. Supposedly, they performed it live, but watching the video now, I'm not so sure. (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 5 October 2026)
