Last night, I sang my first-ever karaoke, a duet with my son Miles of Smokey Robinson's song "My Girl", first recorded by The Temptations in 1964. We sang this song recorded shortly after I was born not in honor of my birth but in honor of my daughter Luisa's birthday. Her birth involved a Caesarean section, so while her mother was being stitched up, I got to hold Luisa for a while. I sang songs to her, and one of the first songs I sang was "My Girl"—and I choked up when I sang the title phrase. Luisa knows the story, so she cried while we sang to "our girl".
